Michelin has awarded 61 restaurants in France with new stars totaling to 529 around the country, four times more than in the UK and Ireland.
Seafood restaurant Le Petit Nice in Marseille was the only establishment to be raised to the three Michelin-star status.
But the ultimate number of three-starred restaurants in France has remained at 26 after Le Grand Véfour in Paris lost its third-star after having regained it in 2000.
A total of eight restaurants were awarded two stars including L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Paris; Domaine des Hauts de Loire in the Loire Valley; and Hostellerie de Plaisance in St-Émillion in Bordeaux.
France now has 68 two-starred restaurants. The guide awarded 52 restaurants their first Michelin star, increasing the number of restaurants in France with one Michelin star to 435.
Thirteen establishments were tipped as future one-star winners but no restaurants were named as rising two- or three-star establishments.
